“Directed by James Wardlaw and starring Veronica Thomas and Philippa Spicer, this version of Alice premiered at Last Year’s Melbourne Fringe where it was warmly embraced by audiences, and then it had a successful run at this year's Melbourne Comedy Festival as well.

Veronica Thomas was a delight to watch in the role of AliceVeronica has a very animated demeanour, projecting her lines not only vocally but through her posture, hand gestures and facial expressions. She occasionally interacts with the young audience during the performance, and they really enjoy the opportunity to be on stage with Alice. During the show I attended, a little boy was so smitten by Veronica that he insisted on staying on stage, repeatedly hugging Veronica, who stayed in character the entire time.

Philippa Spicer, the only other actor in the play, actually embodied a slew of characters; transforming her voice, accent, facial expressions and donning different hats, sunnies, etc… Philippa was an amazing and versatile acting chameleon! Children and adults were in stitches throughout the show due to Philippa’s hilarious antics. She even managed to slip in a mention of mega boy-band 1 Direction, which made me and other grown-ups burst out in a hearty laugh, whilst the little ones remained completely unfazed by it.”

“An absolutely delightful production…

James Wardlaw shows remarkable talent as a director. He has created a stunning production of Alice In Wonderland where his two actors flesh out all the much-loved characters of this familiar tale…

Alice’s changing realities are handled masterfully by Veronica Thomas.

Veronica’s acting drew me into Alice’s world so much so that I felt it with all the wonder of a child. The child I took to see the show (aged 8) was in wonderland. I haven’t seen him this immersed in any other activity. Veronica Thomas has the movement skills of an experienced dancer, (I am not sure if this is the case) as she manages to use her body to create Alice’s different sizes with a stunning accuracy that forces you to suspend disbelief and enter the world of the play.

All the other roles are expertly played by the versatile Philippa Spicer."

Curtain Call, October 1st, 2013

Winterfall Theatre’s version of Alice In Wonderland had every child (and adult) engrossed from beginning to end.

One sees the rich tapestry orchestrated by director James Wardlaw who clearly has a gift for understanding theatre. Wardlaw has directed a truly authentic version of Alice, where he gives immaculate attention to every detail. It is his eye that enables two actors to believably embody all the familiar characters.

Veronica Thomas, morphs into Alice’s states, literally shapeshifting before our eyes! She does this by varying voice, movement, speed, and rhythm.

Philippa Spicer is dynamic and very entertaining. Her chameleon like talent enables us to believe all the character changes she undergoes.”
